Inspiration Station: I have a dream...

Today my 1st grader, Nora, came home with a project she worked on at school in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  It was a mobile that had three parts, on which she wrote her dreams for her community, for her country and for the world.  The dreams were so honest, so pure and innocent.  She was so proud of the mobile she stood in our dining room and read each dream out loud to us.  Twice.

Her dream for her community (which she was told was her school) is:

"I dream that they wold have helthear (healthier) meels in the lunch room because they can some times be un helthey."

For her country: "I dream that things wold not cost so much."

For her world: "I dream that people wold stop fighting.  That wors (wars) wold stop and everyone wold be fiyn (fine)."

I told her I'd put this in her scrapbook.  So, I made a quick layout to accompany it.  Look for inspiration everywhere - in your home, your family, and the simplicity of a child's words.  On a less serious note, I found inspiration in the new Basic Grey valentines papers and journaling spots.  I embellished the layout with some old felt cut outs and the new Basic Grey fabric flowers.

(I will also post this layout at the store so you can see if in closer detail, because this image is so small it is hard to see!)

The mobile itself I will have to put in a pocket page, so it can be taken out and looked at.  This is something I will have to show in another post.  The point is, I found inspiration in this unexpected place and am so excited to record this proud moment for my daughter! Sometimes, as scrapbookers, we feel that we have to record the actual artifact, when really, recording the sentiment of a moment is enough.

Inspiration Station: Happy New Year!

******* POST EDITED - I accidentally deleted the other post that had the comments!  If you posted previously, please re-post so I can include you in the drawing for the FREE spot in the Football Widows' crop on January 31, 2009 -   I will choose the winner on January 15, 2009 and announce it on the website!

Like many of you, I'm sure, I am inspired at the start of every new year to clear out the clutter, set some goals, and return to things that refresh my spirit - like scrapbooking.  I've been reading around some magazines not directly related to scrapbooking, but ones that touch upon the same concepts - creativity, crafts, and using art to record life.  These have inspired me to get back to work on my albums after the holidays.  My albums are chronological, but I've stopped focusing on doing the layouts chronologically.  This has freed my soul!   So, on this freezing winter day, I chose some photographs taken by my sister this past September.  I love them for the memories they conjure of slow, sultry, hot days on a boat.  For the loads of time I spent with my girls and husband.  The memories of being in a place where I grew up, surrounded by lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Plus, they're just really cute photos!  Whatever the reason, whatever pulls you back to your layouts - get one done, about anything...you'll be amazed at how it lightens your spirit and brings the important things in life into focus.  One of my intentions this year is to allow myself the privilege of working on at least one layout a week, hopefully more, to remind myself how much I love creating, and especially recording our lives.  What are your intentions for the new year?

Comment below - and one person will be chosen at random to win a free spot in the Football Widow's Crop!  See the website for details on the crop.

Happy scrapping!
